Columbus Day
Christopher Columbus was an italian explorer that had taken  2 ships to sail. He also took the spanish monarchs that were King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.Christopher columbus was a explorer and also a navigator.Christopher columbus was born in 1451 from the republic of Genoa, Italy. His first voyage or trip was to the atlantic ocean and that almost cost him his life.Columbus also participated in many more expeditions to Africa. Columbus left Spain in the Santa Maria, with the Pinta and the Niña along side.

Columbus wanted to find a water route from Europe from Asia.He actually never did  find a water route but he actually did accidently fall upon the americans. He didn’t discover America he just marked the route or way to travel because many people had already discovered it first and they were already living there.

Columbus day is celebrated now in the U.S.They celebrate it because it was the day christopher columbus landed in the so called”New World”.On October 12, 1492 it was celebrated but wasn’t official. The holiday was official until the year of 1937 and started celebrating the achievements and celebrating american-italian heritage.

In my opinion I think that we should not celebrate Columbus Day. I think it is a good thing because he actually marked down the route, but he did not discover it. Why didn’t they honor any of the Americans that had already discovered the “New World”? I also think this is a great opportunity to not go to school.
